Jigyasa Program
The Jigyasa Program, an innovative initiative connecting students and scientists, was launched by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to stimulate scientific curiosity and cultivate a culture of innovation among school students. The initiative, based on the principle of “learning by doing,” establishes an interactive interface between CSIR laboratories and students from Kendriya Vidyalayas and other educational institutions across the country.
In alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Jigyasa promotes experiential learning through laboratory visits, scientific exhibitions, expert lectures, student mentorship, and hands-on workshops. Since its inception in 2017, the programme has evolved substantially, with Jigyasa 2.0 significantly expanding its digital reach through virtual lab tours, webinars, and interactive sessions, making scientific content accessible to a broader and more diverse student population.
As a proud contributor, the CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML), Jamshedpur, actively organises laboratory visits, scientific demonstrations, hands-on experiments, motivational lectures, career guidance, and scientist-teacher interactions. Apart from the physical interactions with the students, CSIR-NML also develop virtual content, such as simulations, comics, animations, quizzes, etc., for the students. Jigyasa 2.0 @CSIR-NML focuses on key themes such as sustainable development, materials science, and metallurgy, thereby fostering greater inclusivity across geographic and socio-economic divides.
The Jigyasa Program subsequently enhances students’ understanding of practical scientific applications and motivates them to pursue science. This effort is essential for fostering a scientifically knowledgeable and innovation-oriented youth for the future.
