Analytical Chemistry Group of the laboratory is a fully equipped chemical laboratory with state of the art instruments needed for ascertaining the chemistry of the metallurgical products. The ANC group contributes in assessing the processes and product being developed by way of furnishing chemical analysis. Analytical Chemistry group provides analytical support to the ongoing R&D projects of other Divisions of CSIR-NML and also provides analytical testing for the outside agencies.

Advanced Coal Characterization
Laboratory provides the knowhow and R&D service support to Coal industries in particular and other sector like Energy & Power. Major R&D initiative of the laboratory is focused on
Development of Certified Reference Materials (CRMs)
ANC group of National Metallurgical Laboratory is engaged in preparing Metallurgical Certified Reference Materials for last about three decades and presently markets more than 29 CRMs and has a client base of more than 300 organizations. NML has also been working intimately with NPL, New Delhi for about two decades in their project on Bharatiya Nirdeshak Drabya (BND) and has participated in the round robin testing.
